Your Common IV Therapy Questions Answered

How do IVs work?

Intravenous therapy enables your body to rapidly absorb 100% of the vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, and hydration you receive. Think of it as a direct infusion for your cells. Instead of going through the long process of being absorbed through your GI (gastrointestinal) tract, an IV hydrates your body quickly. Right away, you'll feel more energized, healthier, and, well, better!

What happens during my IV4Wellness session?

A trained medical professional will evaluate your vitals, including pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and medical history. Our Medical Director will determine if you are suitable for treatment, after which the trained medical professional will position your IV bag and begin the infusion via a soft flexible catheter inserted into your arm or hand.

What medical conditions prevent the Medical Director from delivering an IV treatment?

While this is not an inclusive list of all conditions that might prevent you from receiving IV Hydration, a few include Impaired Renal system, Chronic Kidney Disease, Dialysis, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Basically any condition that prevents your body from absorbing fluids properly. These conditions are generally serious in nature and you would most likely know about them before coming to see us for an IV.

How long does a treatment take?

Depending on your body, it will take between 30 minutes and an hour.

How often can I get IV therapy?

Frequency is different for everyone because everyone has unique needs. Some people function best with weekly treatments, while others may feel fantastic with one session a month. Some factors to take into consideration are: your level of recent physical activity, nutrition habits, quality of sleep, and stress levels.

Does the needle hurt?

Most people say that our trained medical personnel make the hydration experience nearly painless, or that they only felt a slight "pinch" from the needle. Once the IV has started, most people enjoy a cooling sensation as the fluids enter their body.

What are the qualifications of your IV4Wellness techs?

Our IV Specialists are registered nurses, and all policies and procedures are created and overseen by our medical director. We hire RNs with extensive IV experience to ensure the best experience possible.

What are the potential side effects?

Other than feeling great and having more energy afterwards?
IV Therapy side effects are generally minor and temporary: possible bruising and soreness at the IV site.

Far less common side effects include:

  • Risk of infection
  • Allergic reaction

Although such side effects are extremely rare, our IV Specialists are trained medical professionals capable of handling any such event.
